The BBC plans to offer broadband users the first chance to see new BBC Three comedy shows.
The first series to be broadband-cast in this way will be The Mighty Boosh. This will premiere online from July 19, and broadcast on TV one week later. "A number" of BBC Three comedies will appear online first in future, said the broadcaster.
Jana Bennett, director of television at the BBC said: "It is one of a number of pilots that BBC Television will be undertaking over the next few months, exploiting the opportunities that new technologies offer to look at how programmes might be delivered beyond the traditional linear broadcast."
In related news, Sky has confirmed plans to make a limited number (200) movies available for rent over broadband, though only to subscribers to its premium satellite services.
