Apple has improved the behaviour of applets in Safari and increased stability for desktop Java applications in its latest Java Update.
Java Update 1.4.2 Update 1 also provided support for JDK 1.4.2_05.
Java is the de-facto standard language for developing cross-platform applications, and is a core component of Mac OS X, which includes Java 2, Standard Edition, version 1.4.2.
Apple claims to have optimized Java on Mac OS X to "look great and perform superbly". On its Web site the company says: "Mac OS X the ultimate platform for developing and deploying cross-platform Java applications."
The update requires OS X 10.3.4 and is 26MB. It is available from Software Update or Apple's Web site.
