Broadband-interactive television services are to be trialled in West London by BT and Yes Television.
The trial service will reach 400 homes in the Chiswick and Hammersmith areas of London. It will offer video-on-demand, Internet access, and email services to televisions via ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line). The system will use existing phone lines, according to a statement issued by BT.
The trial is designed to explore the commercial viability of delivering such services over ADSL. The two companies will jointly manage and market the service, with the intention of launching a national service at a later date, said BT.
