At CeBit yesterday, Western Digital announced plans to support the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface with a range of peripherals for the Mac.
The company said its first FireWire-enabled products would include an external hard drive, a PCI adaptor and a CardBus PC Card.
The Western Digital external hard drives are available in 10, 20 and 30GB capacities. The drives are compatible with any Macintosh with a built-in FireWire port, or a FireWire adaptor, running Mac OS 8.6 or higher. For systems without a FireWire port, the company offers a PCI adaptor for desktops, and a CardBus PC Card for PowerBooks.
The products are expected to be shipping in March, with pricing yet to be announced.
