Pinnacle states that: "The product was used on every nominated film for Best Visual Effects at the 2001 Academy Awards, and continues to play a major role in movie and TV productions."
The speed of the product's paint function has been increased by 200 per cent, and the composite function is now 30 per cent faster than before.
New features include Grouping and Browsing controls – allowing users to manage composite-video presentations, and to work with multiple layers when applying special effects and enhancements. The layer support also lets users add mattes, colour corrections, other filters and motion controls to multiple layers simultaneously.
The timeline browser now provides an overview of the entire composite, with controls for selecting, moving and deleting groups and layers.
Commotion 4 will also import Photoshop files into composite. In doing so it preserves layer information, including transfer modes, transparencies, masks and names. Used in conjunction with Pinnacle CinéWave, editors can view NTSC and PAL media in real time.
"With Commotion Pro 4, we continue our focus on providing a rich application for creating visual effects," said Sean Safreed, senior product manager for the professional division at Pinnacle.
