The New York Post reports that Apple may be developing a professional version of its iPod MP3 player with DJ-friendly features built-in.

"There's a rumour afoot that Apple may even be developing a new professional version of the iPod, which will allow DJs to change the pitch and speed of the tracks," it claims.

The article examines the appearance of a new iPod-led innovation taking place in New York's party scene - music fans taking iPods from party to party to play-out their favourite tracks.

In another piece looking at the popular MP3 player, the New York Post says: "There are two types of people in New York: those who have an iPod and those who want one. There are iPod parties, jackets, fan clubs and Web sites galore," it states.

It adds that iPods are sold out at many outlets in the city, including Apple's own retail store.
