Apple has posted a plug-in for Sim City 3000 gamers to download and add the Apple campus as a landmark to their cities.

Sim City 3000, developed by the Maxis arm of Electronic Arts, is a simulation game where gamers build and control their own metropolis. The Mac version was a long way behind the PC version, but it is now shipping in the US.

Tim LeTourneau, associate producer at Maxis, states: "I know Mac users had to wait a little longer than expected to get Sim City 3000, and we wanted to do something special for them. Given the ability to put new landmarks in the game via a download, we figured it was the perfect way to give Mac users something no one else had."

The Apple Cupertino campus-landmark plug-in is ready for download in time for the opening of World PC Expo in Tokyo, where visitors can play with Sim City 3000 at the Apple booth. The plug-in can be downloaded from Apple’s Web site.

Sim City 3000 was shown at the European computer games show ECTS earlier this week. Another Mac-only feature in Sim City 3000 is the colour cursor – as opposed to the monochrome cursors in the PC version.
