Apple has announced Release 0.3 of its open-source Darwin OS and has released its first Darwin Open Source SDK.

The update to Darwin OS inlcudes the latest Mac OS X Server patches, plus an improved installation procession, tailored for installing on smaller drives.

However, Apple warns on its Web site that Darwin OS Release 0.3 is an early development release, aimed at developers interested in working on the Darwin OS with a system that they can use to build and test the Darwin software. It has only been tested on a limited set of hardware configurations and may not work on all computers. A hardware and compatibility FAQ is available on the Web site.

The new SDK CD is available for members of the Apple Developer Connection (ADC) for $29 . It contains the updated Darwin OS, Darwin Streaming Serve 1.0.1 source code, OpenPlay 1.0 network gaming toolkit source code, and other open source software such as the Apache Web server.
