Apple has released Apple Remote Desktop Client 1.2.4 for those using Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

According to Apple's notes, enhancements include faster file transfer on 100BASE-T networks; improved performance when using the Observe, Control, or Sharing screen on 100BASE-T network; new Apple Remote Desktop menu extra icons and status indicators.

A new command-line tool can be used in lieu of the GUI preference pane; a new defaults keyword which allows administration of a client that is also running the administration application; and the computer status windows will no longer "flicker" when Apple Network Assistant 3 clients are present.

In accompanying notes, Apple warns that "unexpected results" may follow installation if users have installed third-party system software modifications, or modified the operating system.

It is also necessary to enter the password for an administrator account when installing the software, and Apple warns that "the password cannot contain a space, or special characters typed by pressing the Option key".

Apple Remote Desktop is administrative software for remotely managing Mac systems from anywhere on a network or remotely across the Internet. The v1.2.4 update is available via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane
