Apple's vice president of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, showcased a preview version of DVD Studio Pro for Mac OS X – at the DV Expo show yesterday, MacCentral reports.

DVD Studio Pro for X authors DVD-video discs. The app handles MPEG encoding, menu creation, asset organization, linking, and output formatting - all required to produce DVD-video discs. DVD Studio Pro for X also has real-time previewing built in.

Other features include the ability to assign assets to video files imported from Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or other editing applications, as well as options to create menus and overlays.

Apple's Mike Evangelist previewed DVD Studio Pro for X, highlighting other new features, including improved real-time project previews and a feature that turns markers in Final Cut Pro into chapters in a DVD Studio Pro project.

DVD Studio Pro for X is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2002. Pricing for the Mac OS X version has not been announced. DVD Studio Pro costs £706 (ex VAT).

DV Expo is being held from December 4 to 6 at the Los Angeles Conference Center, California. Tickets are priced at $45.
