Elgato Systems has released EyeTV 2.1 as a Universal binary update that supports both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.

This version expands support for full-resolution playback of HDTV to Macs with Intel Core Duo processors - a feature that was only previously supported on high-end dual Power Mac G5 computers.

The speed of exporting recorded television shows to iPod has been "dramatically increased", the company said.

The company has also released a Universal update for EyeConnect, version 1.1. EyeConnect is a media streaming solution that runs natively on all Macs. The update lets users stream high definition content recorded with EyeTV on any Mac to an HDTV compatible UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) AV media player that's connected to a television.

EyeTV 2.1 is available for download immediately and is a free update for
existing EyeTV 2 users. The upgrade retail price is €79. EyeTV 2.1 can be purchased at Elgato's online store, a retail version will be available on April 3 through retail channels, including Apple stores.

EyeConnect 1.1 is available for download immediately and is a free update to customers who purchased the full version.
