No-U-Turn Software has announced Dot What 1.0 for Macs, which identifies the correct application in which to open files.

It contains a database of over 1,500 file extensions. In order to access information regarding a particular file, simply input the filename extension – sit, hqx, bin – and Dot What will offer a description and a list of recommended applications that can read the file.

The developers promise a Carbonized version on the release of Mac OS X.

A fully functional version of Dot What is available for free download. It never expires, but carries a reminder for non-registered users to pay the $15 license fee.
