FireWire (IE1394), the multimedia networking standard developed by Apple, won a strong vote of confidence from Microsoft at the 1394 Developers' Conference.
Carl Stork, Microsoft’s general manager of hardware strategy and business development, said: "1394 is poised to be pervasive and to become a standard part of every home. Microsoft’s strategy is to do all the software to make that possible. We have a very broad vision of what 1394 can do."
He announced that Microsoft intends adding better FireWire support with each of its releases.
The 1394 Trade Association consists of over 170 members, including representatives from Apple, Compaq, Lucent, Phillips, Sun and Microsoft.
