MainConcept has released MPEG Encoder for the Mac.
It's a major step. The product is already an established system for Windows and is used in video-editing and DVD-authoring products from Adobe, Sony, Discreet, NewTek, Sonic Solutions, Ulead and Sorenson Media.
MPEG Encoder Mac is a standalone product that offers both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 support. It is a QuickTime-to-MPEG converter and offers speed and quality the company describes as "comparable" to the Windows product.
Features are accessed through an easy-to-navigate user interface. The product includes a number of presets for DVD, Video CD and Super Video CD. It is capable of batch processing and can encode in faster than real-time (on some systems).
MainCConcept founder and CEO Markus Moenig said: "We are proud to introduce our MPEG encoder for Mac. The platform is very popular for content creation, with a very loyal user base. We are happy to offer our high-quality encoder to the Mac market."
A free demo version of the $249 product is available. "The product is also available for OEM bundling", the company said.
