Apple has released an update to iPhoto, adding organizational and stability enhancements.
Version 4.0.1 offers faster importing of photos, smoother image viewing and easier sharing of photos using Rendezvous. It's a 4MB download.
Apple says the update will improve thumbnail views of photos, although users need to update thumbnails first.
The update is free to owners of iLife '04, Apple's £39 digital-lifestyle suite that includes iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, iPhoto, and GarageBand. iLife '04 was launched at Macworld Expo San Francisco in January as the "Microsoft Office for the rest of your life."
iPhoto 4 allows users to scroll and edit up to 25,000 photos, includes new screensaver options, and features a Smart Album feature allowing users to organize photos by date, keyword or self-assigned rating.
Apple last week opened up iPhoto to allow European iLife 04 users the facility to order prints online from Kodak through the application. This feature has been available to US iPhoto users for over two years, since the application launched.
In a press release distributed yesterday, Apple confirmed UK Mac users can exploit this convenient service for 23p per 10-x-15cm print to £1.69 for a 20-x-30cm enlargement. Custom-printed linen-covered hard back books of images are also available from £16.99 (for a ten-page book). Proces exclude VAT.
iLife 04 costs £39 (including VAT), and requires Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later, QuickTime 6.4 or later and a G3, G4 or G5-based Macintosh.
