Claimed audio defects on recent iPods (including iPod Photo) may be caused by third-party headphones, according to iPodlounge.
The defect has meant some users experienced static sound and hard drive access noise when playing their music. While Apple didn't comment on this, the iPod-dedicated Web site has collated numerous reader reports to arrive at its conclusions.
It reports the problem's caused: "Mostly by third-party headphones/earbuds that have a metal base around the headphone plug. When the metal base comes in contact with the metal case of the iPod, the static and hard drive accessing noises can be heard."
The site suggests using a small piece of plastic wrap between the plug and the iPod. iPodlounge yesterday released its completely-free iPod product guide, an extensive guide to all things iPod available as a PDF download.
