Hip-hop legend Jay-Z called the move "a big thing", adding: "What I love about it is 10-15 years ago...they said hip hop was a fad. And when you get something like this happening... It's an amazing thing!"
Hot 97 vice president Jimmy Steal explained how the integration works: "Listeners now have the ability to search, browse and buy all of their favourite Power 106 and HOT 97 songs directly from the iTunes Music Stores featured on our websites."
Essentially the radio stations now host their own iTunes-powered pages on their sites, but have absolute control over the look and feel of those pages.
Site visitors can explore popular playlists, DJ mixes and artist profiles. The move is likely to be emulated by other radio stations in iTunes markets, reports claim.
