Although Apple has not entered the Media Centre market, a version of iTunes is present on the majority of Media Centre PCs.
HP's Media Centers come with a special iTunes-related feature built into Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition software. According to the latest figures from research firm IDC, HP is the biggest seller of Media Center PCs, accounting for about 75 per cent of known shipments.
HP Tunes lets users of HP's Media Center PCs play songs and playlists from iTunes within the Windows Media Center interface.
Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg told Seattle Post: "HP is sitting in a very strange position. On one hand, it's strongly embracing the concept of the Media Center Edition. On the other hand, it is strongly embracing the iPod and iTunes Music Store as the standard for protected music."
While Apple's iTunes software can be used inside the Windows operating system, HP's Media Centers are the only ones that incorporate iTunes inside the Media Center interface.
