Stimpsoft has released iHam on iRye, a set of three Mac OS X-compatible applications to control iTunes over a network - creating a virtual iTunes server.

The free collection lets Macintosh users control iTunes running on one Macintosh from any other Mac on the network. The solution is "intended to be used in conjunction with an MP3 server-type situation, where a Mac is dedicated to running iTunes", the company says.

The three bundled applications include iServer, iAdmin and iClient. iServer and iAdmin access the iTunes Mac, allowing iClient users to access music files and playlists from their own desktop.

The applications don't support modem connections. Stimpsoft warns that performance is buggy in Classic mode.

iHam on iRye requires iTunes 2.0.3 or higher and 4MB RAM.
