Apple is developing a version of iTunes for Windows, The Register claims.

The company is recruiting a senior software engineer to "design and build Apple's newest consumer application, iTunes for Windows."

The move isn't entirely unexpected. Apple CEO Steve Jobs promised Windows users that the new iTunes Music Service would reach Windows users "by the end of the year".

The Register also discusses the digital-rights management employed in iTunes, which uses the Advance Audio Codec and QuickTime to help create hurdles to music piracy.
