Apple has released Java Update 1.4.2 Update 2, claiming that it provides improved behaviour for applets in Safari, and increased stability for desktop Java applications.
It is just over a month since Apple offered a Java Update 1.4.2 Update 1, claiming it offered exactly the same improvements.
Java 1.4.2 Update 2 includes everything offered in the Java 1.4.2 Update 1 which included support for JDK 1.4.2_05.
Java is the de-facto standard language for developing cross-platform applications, and is a core component of Mac OS X, which includes Java 2, Standard Edition, version 1.4.2.
The system will be updated to Java 1.4.2 Update 2. If the system currently has Java 1.4.1, it will be removed. Any previous Java 1.4.2 installation will be completely replaced, says Apple.
