LaCie has announced its 180GB SCSI, claiming it to be the world's highest capacity hard-drive. It combines 180GB capacity with SCSI Ultra 160 – meaning the device can achieve data-transfer rates of 160MB per second on a single drive. This means a sustained transfer rate of 47MB per second.
LaCie is targeting the hard drive at the press, pre-press, digital imaging, video and server markets. It operates at 7,200rpm and comes bundled with LaCie's Silverlining drive set-up utility. Two or more drives can be set up together to create a RAID array.
The £1,695 drive is encased in a ventilated casing. It ships this month through LaCie's authorized resellers and mail-order partners.
