Aspyr will release a Mac port of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, the game that ties-in with this season's blockbuster movie release.
The game has reached "first playable" status in the development cycle. The gaming action features all eight major characters from JRR Tolkien's epic trilogy, including: Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas. It features voice-overs provided by the movie actors too.
Like the books, players aim to destroy the One Ring by casting it into the Crack of Doom to end the powers of the Dark Lord, Sauron. However, the Crack of Doom is surrounded by hostile guards.
Aspyr adds that the game features include: "An all-new co-op multiplayer mode will allow players to team up with a companion; over twelve interactive environments authentically reproduced from the films; third-person action/adventure gameplay incorporating multiple character paths for each member of the Fellowship.
Gameplay features include the defence of the last great free city, Minas Tirith, and huge battle challenges.
Aspyr says: "More than just a backdrop to the action, the game environments are interactive, letting players incorporate the various environments into their strategies for both melée and ranged combat. Characters will have the ability to jump and swing from ropes, fire catapults, kick boulders, and so on."
It also offers: "Seamless movie-to-game transitions and never-before-seen exclusive movie footage from the The Return of the King movie," Aspyr reveals.
