Apple has released Backup 2, a new version of its file archiving utility for .Mac members.
Backup 2 enables users to select any folder on a hard drive as a backup destination. It supports external FireWire drives and mounted volumes with FireWire connections, and a number of third-party CD and DVD drives. Data can also be backed up to network servers and iPods.
Other new features in Backup 2 include: the ability to schedule backups to iDisk and hard drives, so users do not need to be present when the back up happens; faster backups, because the archiving utility only copies files that have changed since the last backup; and the ability to mix different types and sizes of optical discs in a single backup set.
