Apple's marketshare continues to rise according to the latest figures from the analysts at IDC.

IDC's latest figures show that Apple's share of the global market rose slightly in the first quarter of this year, despite the launch of Windows Vista.

Apple now holds 2.6 per cent of the global PC market, up from 2.5 per cent in the previous quarter and up 0.5 per cent from the 2.1 per cent share it held in the quarter ending March 2006. That 0.5 per cent growth is close to a 20 per cent improvement for the firm.

Discussing the figures, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster noted that strong Mac sales during the quarter helped Apple gain share "despite stronger than normal PC sales."

Apple's laptops, the iPhone, iPod and Apple TV are expected to help the company maintain marketshare momentum, the analyst notes.
