Welsh language tools for Mac OS X are now available to download free of charge, thanks to a joint venture between the Welsh Language Board and the Language Technologies Unit at Canolfan Bedwyr, Bangor University.
Release of such support marks a milestone for the Welsh language, as it's the first time Mac users have had access to a comprehensive set of spelling and grammar checkers for Welsh, together with a suite of bilingual Welsh/English dictionaries.
Meirion Prys Jones, chief executive of the Welsh Language Board, which provided grant funding for the development, said: "This is a very important development for the Welsh language, and we are extremely glad that this tool is available free of charge for Welsh-speakers to use in their everyday lives, both at work or at home."
Cysgliad was previously only available for Windows but the Mac version was produced in response to numerous requests from Welsh Mac users.
The software should work with most applications and is available for free download here.
