Gamers can expect delight at the UK's MacExpo event, which begins on Thursday November 20.

A large area at the back of the hall has been transformed into a gamer's paradise: 18 1.8GHz Power Mac G5s loaded with the most current and exciting new titles will be situated in MacExpo's Games Arcade.

Softline, Aspyr, MacSoft, Feral Interactive, MacPlay, Virtual Programming, THQ, Lego and BBC Multimedia are sponsoring the area – and they are providing the games to put through their paces on Apple's advanced new professional desktop Macs.

Pre-release titles available for hands-on gaming action at the show will include Total Immersion Racing and Rayman 3. Other gaming highlights will include an Unreal Tournament 2003 network gaming area; Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo and Nemo's Underwater World of Fun; BBC Multimedia's Engie Benjy: Time for Teamwork; and a chance to preview a new range of Bionicle mini-CDs that will ship next year.

Gamers with cash in their pockets can buy the games they try. MacGames will be at stand 830 (adjacent to the Games Arcade). While Halo isn’t expected to be on show, it will be available for pre-order at the event. (Read Macworld's exclusive UK preview of Halo in the Expo Issue, which reaches news retailers soon).

MacGames is offering a selection of "killer" show specials, including all three titles – Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, No One Lives Forever, and Giant for just £19.99; both Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 for £29.99 altogether; Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Desert Siege for £34.99 the pair; and F1 Championship Season 2000 and Nascar Racing Season 2003 for £26.99 for both titles.

Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo and Nemo's Underwater World of Fun will also be available at the special show price of £29.99 for both products together. All the above prices are huge discounts on the normal retail price.

The games retailer is also running a competition – the winning gamer gets £100 worth of Mac games chosen from among the 160 titles stocked at the show. The prize will be drawn at 3pm each day from among the names added to the hat. A selection of smaller daily prizes will also be available.

In related gaming news, MacPlay has announced that Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, its OS X-compatible expansion pack for its Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn role playing game will be released in the US November 21. This puts players through a brand-new adventure in this popular gaming series.
