The two companies announced a definitive agreement to merge on January 16, 2000. Macromedia says: "The transaction brings together market-leading server development and playback software to make building professional Web-sites more efficient, affordable and accessible."
The news follows the announcement earlier this month that the waiting period demanded by US anti-trust laws had been granted an early termination.
The combined company is scheduled to announce its end-of-year results during the first week of May, 2001. It will retain the Macromedia name and Rob Burgess, chairman and CEO of Macromedia will become chairman and CEO of the newly-merged company.
