Apple's new AirPort Extreme Base Station supports a faster wireless standard (802.11n) and works with some recent Macs, according to the company.
The new WiFi access point debuted yesterday. It's up to five times faster than 802.11g (as used in the previous generation Base Station) and covers twice as much range.
Apparently some recent Macs are capable of supporting the 802.11n draft standard, using enabling software included with the new AirPort Extreme Base Station.
Compatible systems are:
- iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processors (excluding the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
- MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
- MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
- Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme card option
