Sonnet Technologies has a host of new product launches for Macworld Expo, including three PCI Express adaptor cards and a new SATA drive enclosure.
The three PCI Express (PCIe) adaptor cards are for the Mac Pro, dual core Power Mac G5s, Xserve, and Windows computers. The new products are: Allegro Express FW400 — a FireWire 400 card, Allegro Express USB — a USB 2.0 card, and Tango — a combo FireWire 400/USB 2.0 card.
The cards add full-bandwidth, powered USB, and/or FireWire ports without the need for an external box or power adaptor. Each card features a native PCI Express x1 host bus interface and is Mac OS X compatible.
Allegro Express FW400 ($69.95) offers two external (or one external plus one internal) FireWire 400 ports and supports all industry standard FireWire 400 peripherals, including hot-swappable device connection.
Allegro Express USB ($69.95) offers four external plus one internal USB 2.0 ports and supports all industry standard USB 1.1 and 2.0 peripherals.
Tango Express ($89.95) offers two FireWire 400 ports plus three USB 2.0 ports (all external) and supports all industry standard FireWire 400 and USB 1.1 and 2.0 peripherals.
The company also introduced the Fusion R400Q serial ATA drive enclosure ($699). This 13.5in deep, four-bay rack mount hot-swappable drive enclosure offers four interface choices: FireWire 400, FireWire 800, USB 2.0, or for ultimate performance, SATA II. An integrated port multiplier supports up to four hard drives through any of the connections.
The 1U enclosure is designed to be used in most server or storage racks, and can be set up as a RAID system. It includes drive-mounting hardware for each of its four included drive trays, and a cable for each interface. Its trays are interchangeable with Sonnet’s Fusion 400 and Fusion 500P desktop SATA drive enclosures.
