Apple has delivered significant updates to both its PowerBook and iBook lines.

Meanwhile, Mac-using movie and film editors enjoy a deluge of news from the giant US National Association of Broadcasters event this morning, with announcements from Apple, Adobe and Alias, among others.

Continuing its ramping-up of solutions for High-Definition TV (HDTV) Apple has announced Final Cut Pro HD. The company also announced a new application – Motion – and its new Xsan Storage Area Network File System.

Apple also announced Shake 3.5 and DVD Studio Pro 3 at the show, and revealed a collaboration with Panasonic in which the two companies are working to bring HD Over FireWire to desktop and notebook Macs.

Alias has announced the sixth iteration of its industry-leading Maya application, while Adobe announced After Effects 6.5 and Avid offered further details about XPress Pro 4.5.
