Microtek has announced a new A4 scanner. The ScanMaker 6800 is the world's first flatbed scanner to incorporate Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE - a technology that corrects creases and scratches in scanned damaged photos. According to Microtek, this technology brings damaged photos back to "near-original" condition.

With a 2,400-x-1,800dpi optical resolution, the ScanMaker boasts 48-bit colour. It is both FireWire and USB 2.0 compatible, and features a 4-x-5-inch transparency light plate built in.

Its minimum system requirements are 128MB of RAM, Mac OS 9.x., and a PowerPC G3 with either USB or FireWire. Bundled software includes Adobe Photoshop Elements and Abby FineReader OCR. It costs £349 (including VAT). Mac OS X drivers will be available in February.
