Amazon's US arm has pulled its well-publicised Mac OS X 10.2 rebate offer, citing stronger-than-expected demand.

The company has been offering a $50 rebate on purchases of 10.2 – bringing its price down to $79. In the UK, sources could not confirm the deal, but hinted that it would sell Apple's next-generation operating system “at a good price”. spokesperson, Ling Hong, told MacCentral: “The demand exceeded our wildest expectations. We're taking stock to see if we'll reinstate the offer, but we're not continuing the rebate at this time.” Hong also spoke with MacMinute.

US customers who ordered 10.2 – known as Jaguar in the US – before 7pm July 31 will see their orders fulfilled, he said.
