Macromedia has taken a major step to answer the call from Mac-based Web designers by introducing Mac OS X support for ColdFusion.

The company is announcing Macromedia JRun 4 for Mac OS X and will introduce OS X support for the Developer Edition of Macromedia ColdFusion MX for J2EE Application Servers.

JRun 4 for OS X is described as the first commercial J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) -compatible application server to support OS X. It can deploy and manage standards-based Java applications. A free developer version is available from Macromedia while commercial implementations cost $900 per processor.

The Developer Edition of Macromedia ColdFusion MX for J2EE Application Servers (CFX for J2EE) now supports OS X. This introduces ColdFusion scripting capabilities to J2EE application servers (including JRun 4 for Mac OS X) and lets Macromedia Studio MX developers build and test ColdFusion MX applications on OS X platform.
