Napster has selected Addleshaw Goddard as its principal legal adviser.

UK magazine The Lawyer is suggesting that the appointment will have frustrated Wragge & Co, the legal firm who earlier this year secured a victory for Roxio in relation to the ownership of the domain name.

Wragge also advised Roxio on the relaunch of a legal version of the download service in the UK.

The Laywer claims that Addleshaw secured the Napster win because of a personal relationship between its music group associate Alexander Ross and Napster’s UK-based vice-president and general manager Leanne Sharman.

Addleshaws will principally advise Napster on music licensing matters, e-commerce issues, special promotions and general commercial contracts, says the report.
