MacSoft - newly acquired by Destineer - continues to accelerate product development, today releasing a beta version of Neverwinter Nights.
Neverwinter Nights is the latest release from Baldur's Gate development studio, BioWare. Like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights employs a software adaptation of the popular Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game system.
The user interface was designed to be accessible to new role-play gamers as well as the hardcore fan-base," according to MacSoft.
The game offers a choice of gameplay - as a hero adventurer or as a Dungeon Master, with users creating bespoke adventures.
MacSoft general manager Al Schilling said: "Neverwinter Nights is one of this year's most eagerly-anticipated Mac releases because of its fast-paced adventure, online multiplayer capabilities, the new Dungeon Master feature and a whole lot more."
BioWare project director and producer of the PC release of the title Trent Oster said: "Neverwinter Nights will provide limitless adventure and Mac gamers will have all the unprecedented game play options as they join the existing Neverwinter Nights community."
The Neverwinter Nights tech demo requires a 450MHz (or faster) Mac, 256MB RAM, 32MB video card, and 645MB hard-disk space. The beta will be available as a free download from macgamefiles.com and macupdate.com.
