iPod owners now have an easy solution to keep the data on their music players up-to-date, courtesy of PocketMac.

PocketMac iPod Edition lets Mac users synchronize their Entourage data – contacts, calendar events, notes and tasks, documents and other data to their iPod.

This extends the Mac OS's built-in tools for exporting AddressBook/iCal information to iPods. The software can also convert and copy text, RTF, PDF, and Word documents to the iPod's built-in note viewer.

Information Appliance Associates chief technology officer Terence Goggin said: "Most iPod owners don't realize that the iPod has the same basic functionality as a PDA." Both Mac and Windows versions of the software ship together.

PocketMac iPod Edition for Mac runs on OS X 10.2.6 and above and requires iTunes 4.x and Entourage 10.1.4 or better.

PocketMac iPod Edition(TM) for Windows runs on Windows XP/2000 and requires iTunes 4.x and Outlook 2000 or better. All models of iPod are supported. The software costs $23.41.

Zapptek sells iPodIt, which offers similar functionality. This supports transferring information from Entourage, Stickies, Mail, Address Book and iCal. It can also download weather forecasts and RSS headlines directly to your iPod.
