Apple continues to explore new relationships with Unix and Linux developers reports Australia's LinuxWorld this morning.

Apple software product manager Darren Sng told the Australian Unix and Open Systems User Group this morning that Unix users will enjoy major benefits when the company releases Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) later this year.

The OS will be bundled with an optimized version of Apple's X window system, X11 for X, he said: "With this you can access open source applications like Open Office and others," he said.

An X11 SDK will also be available, and this will have features designed to help developers migrate applications from Linus to OS X, the report confirms. The Panther kernel will be synchronized with BSD 4.8.
