The dawning digital age may damage more primitive digits – hands and wrists, experts warn.
The American Society of Hand Therapists warn that, "heavy and extended use of portable electronic devices" could cause damage, as they require prolonged grips and repetitive movements.
"This combination can lead to hand, wrist and arm ailments such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis," the experts warned Newsday.
Advice for handling such potentially damaging movement includes:
Users should try to keep their wrists straight when using such devices; they should try to switch hands frequently; and exercise their hands, fingers and arms.
