Lava Software has released software that lets Windows and Mac users share files easily – and privately – using the Internet.
The software, which supports older Mac operating systems as well as Mac OS X, also supports Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP. It works through a closed system, requiring workgroup names to be agreed between parties and that those parties "join" that workgroup.
Files and folders selected for sharing on the different platforms making up the closed Internet network are then accessible by all members of the workgroup. Broken downloads can also be resumed where they are left off.
The company says that the software could be invaluable for privately sharing image collections and movies between family members across the world over Christmas.
A special launch offer manes users can acquire two licenses for the price of one ($24.95), and that purchasers get access to all platform versions.
A trial version is available.
