Taiwan's largest notebook-computer manufacturer Quanta Computer has won a contract to manufacture Apple's
new-model iMac, claims Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

The report claims the order is for over a million iMacs per year starting in the first quarter of 2002. It's also claimed the new 15-inch LCD iMac will be introduced in January at Macworld Expo, San Francisco. The new iMacs are to be delivered at a rate of 100,000 per month.

The Register reports the same story, attributing this to the Chinese language United Daily News.

In related news, a December 4 Bloomberg report quoted Morgan Stanley analyst Gillian Munson, who told clients that 100,000 new iMacs – which "may" feature a flat-panel screen – will be produced next month.

"This product could generate a lot of excitement," she said.
