An analyst has suggested that Apple is set to launch Blu-ray support in it’s Macs, rather than the HD-DVD format.
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu cited sources in a research note issued to clients and claimed Apple is ready to start shipping computers with support for the next-generation DVD format.
"We believe this is a key announcement as current Macs ship with the DVD format and Sony gains a strong ally in Blu-ray," he wrote, according to a report on Apple Insider.
He also notes that there is "a smaller chance Apple may use a combo Blu-ray/HD-DVD drive to ensure full compatibility and not get involved in the format wars." This would not be surprising given that Apple has previously given its support to both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD associations.
