Apple has withdrawn its eMac from consumer retail channels, returning the Mac to its original use as an education-only machine.
This Mac was originally introduced as an education-only machine in May 2002. Consumers angrily responded that they wanted to buy the all in one CRT machine as well, a demand to which Apple eventually acquiesced by placing the eMac on general release.
Apple's product pages now state: "eMac: E is for Education. Designed for education."
The Mac mini is now the low cost entry-level machine for most users, starting at £359 (including VAT).
