A demo of music-notation software Sibelius 2 has been posted.

Previously, only a Windows demo of version 2 of the cross-platform application was available.

Sibelius notates all types of music, from simple early vocal pieces to avant-garde orchestral scores and full symphonies. It also automatically handles special notation such as guitar tablature and figured bass.

Sibelius 2 is Mac OS X-compatible, and is a major upgrade according to developers Sibelius Software. The software is now faster, and boasts an Arrange feature which lets musicians use their Macs to arrange and orchestrate music automatically.

There are also new colours, graphics, and tools that include rulers and hidden objects. The user interface has had a face-lift, too.

Sibelius 2 requires a G3 or G4-equipped system, and runs on Mac OS 8.6 through to OS X 10.1 or later.

The demo is freely available for download. The application is available at a discounted price of £449 until the end of April. It normally costs £595. Prices include VAT.
