Sky has confirmed plans to launch high definition TV content in early 2006 in the UK.
Sky One, a Sky Sports channel, Artsworld, two Sky Movies channels and a Sky Box Office channel will all be available in the new format. Additional channels will probably be available by the time the service launches.
The news is a significant move to bring HD TV transmissions into the mainstream.
The company will allow users to pre-register for the new package from August 26.
Brian Sullivan, Sky's director of customer products and services, told Media Week: "The launch of high definition will be the start of an exciting new era in broadcasting."
