HP has introduced its 4-megapixel PhotoSmart 812 digital camera.
The image-capture device integrates an automatic email function, and offers one-minute video-capture with audio. An optional £59 docking unit is also available. This connects the camera to a TV or HP DeskJet printer – otherwise, the unit connects to the camera over USB.
Image-capture product manager, Tim Potter, said: “HP has enormous strength in the digital-imaging arena with our market-leading scan and print technology. We are in a unique position to be able to harness this technological leadership to develop affordable, high-quality digital cameras.”
The camera features the company’s ImageShare technology. Newly introduced by HP, it has been developed to automatically email pre-selected images to others when the camera is linked up to an Internet-connected computer.
The camera also offers a 3x optical and 7x digital zoom facility, and includes a 16MB SD (Secure Digital) card for image-capture and storage. The device weighs 226.8g (with its two rechargeable AA batteries installed). It costs £399. Prices exclude VAT.
