Sony plans to add movie and TV downloads to its Sony Connect service within 12 months, reports claim.

The Financial Times cites Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Michael Lynton, as saying: "Sony Connect will not be just a music service but also a video business within the next year."

The report anticipates the service will be compatible only with devices that use Sony technology. It also suggests movies made available through the service may come from Sony Pictures, Paramount, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and MGM.

In related news a group of eight companies ? including Warner Bros Studios, Sony and Walt Disney ? has announced plans to make available a content-management technology that will allow consumers to copy prerecorded digital content, such as videos, and share it with networked and portable devices.
