iMac-imitator Sotec floated for the first time on Nasdaq Japan yesterday.

Initial reaction on the exchange was good, with the company’s share value rising 19 per cent.

Sotec was sued a year ago by Apple for imitating the appearance of it’s best-selling iMac range. Sotec was then ordered to stop production and recall the models in question by a Tokyo court.

Sotec plans showrooms, product development and intends launching Internet related businesses. The company was among the first Japanese manufacturers to sell computers for under £650 (100,000 Yen).

The company tripled its pre-tax profit in the second quarter of this year.
