Apple and Pixar CEO Steve Jobs has moved up 44 places to become the 78th richest American, according to the Forbes 400 list.
His net worth has climbed $700 million in the last year, reaching $2.3 billion. In 2002 Jobs was ranked number 122 with $1,6 billon, up 36 places from 2001 when he was ranked 158 with $1.4 billion.
At number one, for the tenth year in a row is Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates with $46.0 billion. Gates' fortune increased by $3 billion over the past year, according to Forbes.
Jobs tied for 78th place with fashion designer Ralph Lauren and CNN founder Ted Turner.
Jobs won Forbes approval earlier this month in their CEO approval ratings when he received a 77 per cent approval rating in July, down from June's 86 per cent but far higher than Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's rating, which stood at nine per cent.
Jobs also looks set to do well in Forbes best-dressed millionaire poll. He has received 23 per cent of the vote so far (2335 votes) second only to Oprah Winfrey with 33 per cent (3406 votes). Donald Trump in third place with 18 per cent (1816 votes). Larry Ellison only has 4 per cent (449 votes).
