Internet use in Europe is to be probed, in the most ambitious survey of its kind - the Pan-European Internet Monitor.

The study, by Pro Active International, will be conducted by telephone and online in February and September across 14 European countries. It will involve 150,000 Internet users.

The probe will provide benchmark information on Internet penetration, demographics, the Internet and other media behaviour. Attitudes towards online advertising and e-commerce habits will also be surveyed.

Louise Bahns, Yahoo! European research manager, Europe says: “The Pan European Internet Monitor is an important step in understanding the diverse European Internet landscape.”

The project is allied with AltaVista, RealMedia, Yahoo! Europe, MSN, 24/7 Europe, Excite, Ad Pepper, DoubleClick and Active Advertising.
